(RESEARCH) Assignment 33: Titles, Credits & other Text in Music Videos

LunchMoney Lewis - "Bills" -- Laurie

The texts in "Bills" by LunchMoney Lewis are used to make the music video almost like a movie & also hint to the audience that the music video is going to be a narrative.

The texts says the artist's name. This implies that the artist (LunchMoney Lewis) is going to act in the music video. The text is special effect where it moves with the diegesis - in this case "LuchMoney Lewis in" appears to be hovering directly above the car.

This texts is used to establish the name of the song/music video. This makes the music video more like a films because films usually display the title through large titles.

The texts says the director of the music video. This further makes the video like a movie because the director is usually credited early on in the music video.

"BAD BLOOD" - TAYLOR SWIFT FT. KENDRICK LAMAR -- Laurie

Like "Bills", the text in the music video for "Bad Blood" is used to make the music video like a film & give a hint to the audience that the music video is a narrative.

The text here is used to introduce the characters' names. They also made the text have a 3D effect as well as some tones. The reason for this is to make the video fit in the genre of the music video's narrative & make it more like a movie.
This is contrast to the text in "Bills". "Bills" uses standard 2D text that moves with diegesis.

The text here is used to credit the producer who is the artist: Taylor Swift. This further makes the music video more like a movie because producers are usually the first credited in a movie. But also promotes the artist by having her name displayed in large text.
This is different to "Bills" where it just introduces the artist rather than state what role he had in the making of the video.

The text here is used to display the title of the music video. The title is displayed with large, bold letters that is in a different format & colour compared to the other texts throughout the video. This is supposed to make the video more like a movie because the movie title usually stands out from the rest of the texts & are usually in a unique design.
This is in contrast with "Bills". The title of "Bills" does not differentiate from the other texts through different colours or a different font. Instead it is the same colour & font. To show the audience the title of the music video, it makes the title the largest text in the video & uses quotation marks ("").

MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS - SAME LOVE feat. MARY LAMBERT-- Luke

The text is used to give credit to the people who helped make the video possible this is so that every member of the cast and crew are given recognition. The Black against a bright back ground makes it easier for the audience to read. And having the text central also brings the audiences focus to the centre of the screen.

Blonde, All Cried Out -- Steven

In Blonde's Video, they use their logo at the beginning of the video to show that it is official and owned by them. It also shows It being flat whereas the background is a 3d motion picture so it looks like it is stuck onto the screen.

The Text use is classic Blonde, It is their own unique font that they use for their video titles in the thumbnails in the video. With it being casual writing font, it looks like someone wrote it instead of it being programmed by a computer and being blocky. It gives it a slick and smooth feel to the text used.

With the  other thumbnails shown on youtube, it is shown that all of them are grouped together and indicates that they belong to blonde and with them being centred brings the audiences focus to the centre. and in this music video it also helps the audience keep track of the actress because she is also centred in the music video.
